Capturing Memories with Roz

Roz moved into Casa de Esperanza in 2019 and is a loyal friend and housemate! She has a variety of interests – one of them being photography. In 2023, she asked our Marketing Manager, Sam Andico, to teach her how to take photos with the Administrative Office’s extra camera. She eventually got her own camera in December 2024. She regularly photographs Noah’s PERCH events, happenings in Casa de Esperanza, and assists Sam with taking photos at events like Summerfest and weekly activities at the Community Center. We sat down with Roz to learn about her passion for capturing memories.

Roz serves as Assistant Photographer to Marketing Manager Sam Andico at various events and programs.

Why do you like taking photos?

Roz: To capture memories, and because it gave me something to do after a family member passed away. I’ve really enjoyed it a lot. I’ve learned so much. I’ve gotten very good at taking pictures. If you see some of the pictures in the Navigator, I took some of those pictures. My title is Assistant Photographer.

How did you learn how to take photos?

Roz: I learned by practicing and getting some pointers from Sam and Barbie [Bates].

What is your favorite event you took pictures at?

Roz: Summerfest, Noah’s PERCH Barbieland Prom, the PERCH New Year’s Mixer, and the PERCH Talent Show.

What advice do you have for other beginner photographers?

Roz: Being a visual learner helps. Work with someone who can help you learn and give you hands-on experience. That is one of the best ways to learn.

What do you want to try next?

Roz: I really want to get into nature and marine life photography. I love animals and plants. I want to learn how to capture those things with my camera.
