FAQs: Get to Noah Us
Some of you reading this may already be familiar with Noah Homes, and some of you may be new. We wanted to take this opportunity to answer some frequently asked questions about Noah Homes for those who need a refresher or for those who don’t know.
Q: IS THERE A WAITLIST TO MOVE INTO NOAH HOMES? ARE RESIDENTS PLACED ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS?
Yes, there is currently a large waitlist of families awaiting placement at Noah Homes. A spot only becomes available when a resident passes away. Residents are not placed based on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents are placed based on the level of care they require, and also, fit with the house they would like to live in.
Due to all of these factors, there is no set amount of time for how long your loved one will be on the waitlist. Don’t be discouraged, though! The wait can last either years or months, but it doesn’t hurt to put your name on our waitlist. For more details regarding this, please email our Program Coordinator, Valerie.
Living with roommates can be challenging regardless of whether you have a developmental disability or not. Because of this, we always make sure that a resident is a good fit for the house and all the housemates before a new resident moves in.
Future residents will do a respite stay, which is essentially a trial run to see if they get along with everyone, but also are ready to move out and into a community like ours.
Q: HOW DOES FUNDING WORK? IS THERE A MONTHLY FEE TO LIVE AT NOAH HOMES?
There is no out-of-pocket fee for a resident to live at Noah Homes. The quality services we offer at Noah Homes will be covered by the amount funded to your loved one through SSA and/or SSI benefits. Additionally, we receive supplemental funding from the San Diego Regional Center to provide that support. Board and care payments can be done one of two ways – you, the family, can choose to remain the payee and cut a check every month, or you can choose to work with the Regional Center to take advantage of their third-party payee program, where they will cut the check in your stead.
Unfortunately, the State of California does not reimburse Noah Homes for many costs, such as toiletries, new linens, additional staff training, new vehicles, home repairs, and more, equating to about a $1 million deficit each year. We work hard to secure additional funding from grants, donations from families and friends, fundraisers, and events we host for the community.

Q: I WANT TO GET MORE INVOLVED WITH NOAH HOMES. HOW DO I DO THAT?
There are many ways to get involved at Noah Homes, such as joining the Noah Society, attending events, donating, etc. But volunteering is a great way to get to know our mission, the residents, and make a tangible difference in our community.
One of the primary features that differentiates Noah Homes from other living communities is our emphasis on making meaningful social connections that enhance the lives of our residents. These connections make a difference in not only their lives, but in those of our volunteers and staff.
While giving back can manifest in a variety of ways, volunteerism remains at the heart of our organization and continues to be crucial to advancing our mission to greater heights.
Volunteers save Noah Homes an average of $37 an hour. Many of our volunteers are repeat helpers, spending just a few hours each week or month contributing to our community. Whether you can give one hour or one hundred, we are so grateful for all of the assistance!
If you’re interested in volunteering, email our Volunteer Coordinator, Natalie.
Q: DO YOU HOST EVENTS?
Yes, there is always something going on at Noah Homes. Noah’s PERCH is a social club created for and by adults with developmental disabilities. PERCH hosts monthly events for all Noah Homes residents and PERCH members. Any person with a developmental disability can join and get to know others with I/DD in the San Diego area while partaking in a fun activity.
Coming up on Saturday, September 12th, PERCH is hosting a Wicked-themed prom. Check out the PERCH website for events to finish out 2025 and for details on how to join.
