A Life-Changing Career at Noah Homes
At Noah Homes, we value teamwork, growth, and collaboration. Our mission to provide exceptional residential care is at the heart of everything we do. From our Programs team, to our Facilities team, to our Administrative team, everyone works together to ensure that our residents get to live their best lives.
We sat down with Residential Manager Cesar Rodriguez to talk about his time at Noah Homes and how it changed his life for the better.
Cesar’s Noah Homes journey started in 2011, and since then, he has grown from a Direct Support Professional to a leader in his own right.
WHAT SURPRISED YOU MOST ABOUT THIS JOB?
CESAR: The relationships you build. It's beyond the care tasks you do for the individuals you care for. You get to really know their routines, their preferences, and what helps them feel safe and supported. I didn’t expect there to be a lot of communication or problem-solving, or how unpredictable it can be. I also didn’t expect how rewarding it could be for everyone [we care for]. The seemingly "small" things, like them learning a new task or gaining some more independence, mean a lot.
WHAT SKILLS HAVE YOU DEVELOPED AT NOAH HOMES?
CESAR: Patience. I have developed a lot of patience. You need a lot of it to understand them [the residents] and why they do what they do. I've learned to be adaptable because every day is different. My communication skills have grown, especially in learning how to connect with other people and their needs and wants. I’ve developed great problem-solving skills. I’ve also learned how to be empathetic, organized, and reliable because people are counting on me every day.
WHERE HAVE YOU SEEN THE IMPACT OF YOUR WORK?
CESAR: I have a resident under my care who fell at his day program. He got severely hurt. He was seen by the doctor. He was told that it could just be bruising, but something still didn’t seem right to me. I ended up taking him to get further testing done, and we ended up finding out that he had a cervical spine issue, causing paralysis on the lower half of his body. With lots of physical therapy and dedication to his care, we got him back to his full independence. He’s walking on his own and doing everything independently again.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE NOAH HOMES FAMILY?
CESAR: It feels like a close-knit family. Everyone is looking out for each other; not just the staff, but the residents, too. There’s a lot of support, collaboration, and shared purpose around making sure the residents are safe, respected, and well taken care of.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE CONSIDERING THIS ROLE?
CESAR: If you genuinely care about people, it can be a very fulfilling role. It can be challenging at times, but there’s a strong sense that you’re not doing it alone, and that makes a big difference.
